Anybody remember when WalMart advertised that the products they sold were "Made in the USA"? Sad time my friends, sad times.
Funny story on that.
The small town where I grew up had a Western Auto store. It was the place to buy all kind's of stuff, including bicycles. My family was friends with the family that owned the store, I heard this tale from the father.
After WalMart opened in our town, sales at the Western Auto slowed. The guy went down to WalMart to check out what they were doing. He found the same brand of bike he was selling, being retailed at 1-2% more than was paying for them. The next time the bike manufacturers rep came by, he asked him about this.
"Well", the sales rep said, "volume discount this, economies of scale that, efficiency the other".
"But my families store has been supporting your brand for 40 years, where's the loyalty?", or words to that effect.
"Well, times change", was the answer.
A year goes by, and the bike manufacturer rep is back at the WA, where he sees a good assortment his brands bike, including new models just released the previous month. He goes to the store owner and asks him "Where did you get these new bikes? You haven't place an order with us in 8 months"
"I bought them at WalMart".
"Why would you do that? You can get them cheaper by buying them direct"
"Not a lot cheaper I couldn't. And I figure either WalMart is selling them for no profit, or you are. So by buying them at WalMart, I'm *********g one of you sons of bitches, and that makes me happy!"
Moral of the story? The bike manufacturer moved their production facilities over seas. The Western Auto is now a Beef O'Brady's.

So he won the price and apple re-invited him. But what about the other hundreds of developers who are banned from the App store with no clear explanation why they were rejected? I like this 1984 reference in the previous comments, I couldn't agree more. Looks like it is time for change.
As for the artist, he is not showing too much artistic integrity. He has been rejected on BS reasons, calling his art ridiculous, then he resubmits immediately. He should have stood up agains the AppNazi and tell them to shove their censorship up their butts.

Ask the employee about on the job horror stories. then share some of your horror stories. Once that's been settled and a few laughs have been made just ask some simple questions (how do you like working here, do you go to school, are you a psycho and etc). once you guys have a vibe goin on ask her/him if he/she is single. Then whip out your phone and get the digits.

So, how long does GameStop take to send the beta code? I just preordered... wish I could start the download while I'm waiting for the code...
Supposedly, according to Gamestop, within 1 business day, although some other posts I have come across seem less optimistic (maybe they're just trolls...)
Either way, I put in a pre-order, if I don't get my beta key before too long I might cancel, I might not... I'm more of a digital download fella anyway...

Most successful office suite: Microsoft Office.
Yes, having been given a monopoly over the IBM compatible PC platform by IBM themselves is quite a measure of how great Microsoft is. :rolleyes:
Their success is based on IBM's failure to realise how important that market would become. They have not built their success off of making good products.
And Microsoft Windows Server ? really ? Is it successful because I have to install 30 of those to run a simple SSO db like AD whereas I can run eDirectory off of 3 Sun boxes and achieve the same results with about 100 times more objects in the directory ?
But this story is about a guy who manages data center, not about Microsoft's rise to power and their illegal moves to remain at the top for years. And their data center seems to have been top notch, since you rarely hear of Windows update not working or Microsoft.com being down, or MSN messenger not responding or Hotmail.com being on the fritz.

You can't boot XP from CD on a Mac. You can't you can't you can't. The Mac boots using EFI, which XP doesn't support.
You need to use Boot Camp to install it, as legacy BIOS emulation has to be loaded specifically for XP.
if i am not mistaken the bios emulator (or whatever allows xp and the new vista build to boot from BIOS) is in the last firmware update 1.0 or 1.1, cant remeber the number... you dont need boot camp to install xp or vista, but you do need BC if you want an easy way to create a drivers disc for windows...

You're misunderstanding. It's not a cobranded box that says TiVo, that's coming in the future, but DirecTV outsourced their DVR software development to TiVo years ago....

They're working on a true Tivo box that'll support directv, whereas in the past it's just been software they've developed as private label for DirecTV... hence the "renewed partnership" wording.
Their renewed partnership is because there used to be a DirecTivo (which was a dvr separate from the other boxes) that was launched back in 1999 and went through a series of upgrades until 2007.
Their current software found in their boxes is done in house, I know a few people who test it.

You're absolutely right but as a dev I'd say Adobe is throwing away a large chunk of the Mac market as many users will still have PowerPC machines even when this app comes out. Maybe, Adobe is not after the Mac market at all here. They're really interested in the Windows market but the port to x86 mac was pretty easy.
If you make a Universal Binary the program not only has to run on the PPC but has to hve usable performance. So they would have to taylor the program's feature set so that the PPC was not over taxed.
If you design a program with a target minimum system requirement of "at least a dual core Intel processor and 1GB RAM" you can add a lot of nice features that you could not have if the program had to run on a G4 or G5.
One relivent bit of info is that user's tend to buy most of their software near the time when they buy a new computer. People with older machines simply don't buy much new software. So while there are thousands of PPC Macs in the world not many of those Mac owners will be potential costomers while almost everyone who buys a new computer is a software buyer.

Agnostic maybe but not illiterate. Would you call a person who knows no more about a pencil than to sharpen it and draw or write illiterate?
Computer are tools to and shouldn't need to be anything more than that to the vast majority of people. Why should they need to worry anymore about the tool than they worry about the pencil.

I agree with your point of view, but I am trying to expand the MHz/GHz speeds of a G4 to how it would compare against a P4 of ≈ same speed. My post had approximations, so that's why I say approximately equal to, not =. But my point is that the G4 can actually surpass the P4 at 3 or 4GHz speeds if the right apps are used.

They've already asked their developers to change app resolutions once. 3 screen sizes will never fly with developers.
