If you don't want the free publicity, then don't submit your app to the Mac App Store.

Of course, all the haters will cry foul.

What exactly is a 'hater'? Someone that disagrees with the company line? Someone with a dissenting opinion?

The counter is crap anyway. It goes from -1 to +1 without a 0. And it seems completely random.

It's very hard to take anyone seriously who believes in fairy tales like karma.

    Metaphor.

Thanks. However, that site doesn't seem to update its information. Some of it dates back at least five years.

For example, I looked around my area, and most of the well known dead zones marked on the map were resolved a few years ago with new towers.

So you looked around and deemed them fixed or drove around and tested them?

And yeah Google does record but they at least give you the option to turn it off

This is the point. It doesn't matter which side of the coin you're on regarding privacy. Off means off. On means on.

And if this were RIM, MS, Google or anyone else that had an important feature crippled due to QA, no doubt the ones claiming Apple's innocence here (and decrying everyone else has conspiracy theories) would be the ones laughing at, making theories, getting outraged, etc.

It's not a question of giving Apple a free pass. EVERY company should be liable. And consumers have every right to raise questions.

My goodness - there are threads on this board from people who cry about a one pixel shift in a graphic. Or that their app icon is blurry.

Here's a real issue. An important issue. And some people want to just wipe it under the carpet as a "non issue"

    Overthrow of the government?
 i suppose that's the only definition for revolutionary for you? if so, what do you see in iPhone that's revolutionary?

    And only 200 new patents.

is there anything other than the fact there's "200 new patents" (where did you get this anyway?) that you find revolutionary about iPhone?

Apple is not a religion, Steve Jobs is not God.

    i'm outa this thread.

You're not. Look back a bit, for one of my posts.

Just knock out the wall between, put stalls where urinals are, and you're done.

Bonus: You now have both an entrance and an exit.

    I r analyst. :D

The idea of having a slider for changing tabs, having the active tab lighter in color than darker, reminds me of the interface of my LED Machines app, where you have to choose between music from the itunes collection or sound for the alarm.

Ridiculous? I defy you to name one thing (http://arstechnica.com/apple/reviews/2003/04/finder.ars) that Apple has fixed in the single-worst, most user-hostile app ever written for the Mac!
    <pedantry>
Is Finder an App per se or integral to the OS?

    very. powerful. ad.

one of the best I've seen recently.

OK, so I've been using my iPad (v1) since a few weeks after they came out. I use it for business (note-taking, presentations, pages & numbers for document reading/generation, file access via goodreader/dropbox, and so on), for design (sketching, rendering, photo processing, wireframing, etc.), for music performance and production (that's my main gig... I compose, comp, and use some interesting tools for live performance), most of all, the iPad makes a great remote controller for music software (see Omni TR for Spectrasonics' Omnisphere, and TouchAble for controlling Ableton Live as two excellent examples).

And of course, I browse news/web/social media (Flipboard, Zite, Twitter etc.), read books, watch TED talks, learn (e.g. I'm currently studying Russian, and can practice listening in the background while I do other things, which is very cool)...

It becomes a shared reference during conversations... I use a translator, quick google searches, illustrate topics of discussion on the fly.

And of course, the occasional game, my current favorite being Need For Speed, which is tons of fun on this platform...

I use Apple's bluetooth keyboard together with the iPad for extended typing sessions, and it's a great setup. Basically the same functionality I get from a laptop arrangement... in fact, my MacBook Pro rarely leaves the house anymore.

So, is it magical? Nah... ok sometimes, almost... check out the new (free) "Planetary" app for browsing your iTunes library... that's pretty magical! :)

Is it useful? Productive? Entertaining? Yes to all...

    Really, what's not to like?

Apple got it right. And this new ad nails it......

    my long two cents! :)

For once Europe seems to be ahead of the curve to the advantage of the consumer when compared to the USA.

I agree. Although I live in the USA, I spend at least 4 months each year in the UK. Overall my mobile experience abroad is superior to that in the US.

You are really disenchanted by this thread arent you?

But at the end of the day its your fault. You are the leader you must take responsibility.

I sure am, just a broken, shadow of my former self.

As the highest-posting 68040 I feel distraught at my ineptitude as leader. but in about 13 more posts I'll be the most junior 601 and then I'll pass the buck up the line. :D

Also, in regards to stupid employees and sleazy mangers, yeah, they do exist. But more employees know their stuff than you might think. And there are quite a few managers who actually do care about trying to do a good job and help the customer.

Now on the other hand, sleazy managers and supervisors can screw so much of this up. While most of the employees aren't making a career out of working at Best Buy, the sups and managers typically are on some level at least, and it takes a certain, umm, level of person to get, err, stuck, yes, at that level if you know what I mean. There's a lot of inconsistency in these types of people. If you get good ones though, they tend to hire good employees and foster a good environment for customers. My store has good management. It's the only thing that makes it remotely tolerable to me.

This is true of any retail. And it doesn't matter how bad or good corporate itself is, if you have good managers they can make a store that is great to go to regardless of bad corporate culture or vice versa.

I'm sure Best Buy has some stores run by good management. I am betting the place you work at is one of those. But in my experiences amongst four different Best Buys between two different states, they are not the norm.

(and yes, working for good managers makes a helluva lot of difference. They really do set the tone and not just in how they treat you and the customers and expect you to treat the customers, but it also shows in the quality of help they hire or the quality of help they keep. No, it's not fun to work under a manager who won't fire anyone. Sure, you have piece of mind in your job stability, but so does that crappy co worker that never does any work or pisses off the customers that you have to deal with the fallout from).

I think your problem is that you apparently only have 2 uses for a piece of electronics. So no, probably not a product for you.We might be getting somewhere with Silverlight support.

The potential is limited only by you imagination.About as bleak as Apple's minimalism.

    this is bull, noway....

but amd would be cheaper I bet...

No it wouldn't. You might pay less for chips, but you will need to wait much longer as AMD doesn't anywhere near the capacity to produce processors like Intel does, therefore making Apple pay more in the end. That's part of the reason Apple went with Intel.
